In Manhattan’s TriBeCa neighborhood, every effort was made to envelop this single-family townhouse in green. From atrium vine gardens and courtyard climbing walls to a series of roof gardens for entertaining or calm reflection, this residence is a true oasis. A juxtaposition of geometric lines and overgrown swathes of perennials and native grasses is complemented by a local and sustainably-harvested Black Locust-wood deck and local bluestone paving. Planting strategies include a hardy, no-mow Pennsylvania Sedge lawn, as well as English Garden-inspired drifts of Creeping Thyme, Sage, Mint, and other richly-scented, colorful perennials, creating a home terrace space that’s both sustainable and pleasurable.
