The transformation of Sack Wern Houses, a NYCHA development located in the Southview neighborhood of the Bronx, reimagined what open space can do for public housing residents. Future Green was commissioned to design the development’s open spaces, focusing on creating a series of interconnected landscapes and vibrant community areas. The design aims to enhance outdoor living for residents by providing engaging and functional destinations including children's playgrounds, a dog run and a neighborhood basketball court.
The renovation plans are deeply informed by resident input, gathered through a series of charrettes held in the spring of 2023. This collaborative approach ensures that the new spaces reflect the community's needs and desires, fostering a more connected and cohesive environment. The project includes revitalized green spaces, improved recreational areas, and enhanced pathways to promote both social interaction and well-being among residents.
