Pinecrest House, winner of the 2024 Architizer A+ Special Mention Award, is a private residence located in Hastings-on-Hudson, designed in collaboration with Jacobschang Architecture. Nestled on a hill that rises toward the street and descends into a serene, wooded area adjacent to the Croton Reservoir Trail, the home offers stunning views of the Palisades and Hudson River, framed by the mature tree canopy surrounding the property.
A winding path of gravel and stone steps connects two main terraces: an upper terrace that enhances the living and entertaining space around the pool, and a lower lawn terrace featuring a tree swing. The property is designed to embrace both shaded and sunlit areas, creating varied microclimates.
To seamlessly integrate the landscape with its wooded context, the plant palette incorporates a diverse range of native plants, including ferns, low-bush blueberries, and rhododendrons along the site’s perimeter. The pool terrace and garden steps are adorned with traditional ornamental plants such as lilacs, thyme, lavender, and butterfly weed, complemented by ornamental grasses.
