The historic beaux-arts Farley Post Office building located between 8th and 9th Avenue, at 31st St, is being reimagined as the new iconic gateway to New York City. Inspired by the historic architecture, the landscape design reimagines beaux-art landscape principles of garden rooms, tree allées, and formal geometry in a contemporary style. The Moynihan Train Hall, with its ancillary plazas, and streetscape improvements along 9th Avenue and 33rd Street, will provide a new major landmark in the city and destination for train commuters. This includes broader sidewalks, specialty paving and a lush pocket park plaza with café and lounge furnishings. A vast rooftop of more than 60,000 SF, designed for a multi-national tech company, expands on the concept of “the new workplace” where space-making stimulates creativity, spontaneous interaction and collaboration. A range of spaces cater to a diverse range of meeting and event destinations nestled in the landscape. Amphitheaters, stages, grand lawn, workstations, and meeting booths, inspire different modes of socializing, learning and meeting. Wellness programming of edible gardens, meditation and yoga platforms, and walking paths offer employees the chance to rest and recharge in the center of Manhattan.
