Located in Downtown Brooklyn, Temple Square activates the public space within The Alloy Block, situated beneath the new One Third Avenue Tower. In addition to the main plaza, Future Green also proposed a private terrace to provide a breath of outdoor space for residents of One Third Avenue.
After canvassing and surveying the local community, we found that people were concerned about the high-speed traffic surrounding Temple Square Plaza. Residents also expressed a desire for more shade trees and opportunities for public art. Future Green’s response to these needs was to design an outdoor space that balances openness with shelter, where shaded trees and planted buffers help attenuate traffic noise within the center of the plaza.
By synthesizing community needs while incorporating green space, Temple Square will become a vibrant public realm - one that softens the intensity of its urban context while creating a welcoming environment for gathering and everyday life.
