Developed as part of a competitive RFP response, the landscape design vision for Riverbend Inwood is deeply rooted in the natural character of Upper Manhattan, drawing inspiration from the nearby ecological landmarks of Muscota Marsh, Inwood Hill Park, and Fort Tryon Park. Reflecting the neighborhood’s unique balance of nature and industry, the proposal integrates native plantings, green roofs, and community-oriented open spaces to create a resilient and accessible waterfront environment.

A central component of the proposed design is a richly programmed, publicly accessible shore walkway along the Harlem River. Envisioned as a destination for recreation, gathering, and connection with nature, the riverfront would feature a planted, soft-edged shoreline, an amphitheater, children’s play areas, shaded seating, and open picnic areas. The concept also proposes splitting the building podium to create a pedestrian passage from 9th Avenue to the waterfront, strengthening neighborhood connectivity and establishing access to the river’s edge even prior to development of the adjacent southern parcel.
