As part of the design process for a series of courtyards of a new Art Gallery in Bushwick, Future Green Studio designers are conducting material research by mixing aggregates and concrete to explore the process of decomposition. Material studies include:
- Mixing concrete with gravel and asphalt to study transitions of surface textures
- Creating concrete voids by applying de-icing salt, inserting and removing straws, and introducing organic material to allow for microhabitats of moss and weeds to grow
- Combining peat moss and perlite to concrete to accelerate the degradation process and encourage plant habitation
