Future Green Farm - Edible Garden

Research

Future Green Farm is a seasonal field station for design, cultivation, and ecological experimentation located in the lower Hudson Valley. Serving as both a working vegetable farm and a living laboratory, the site supports regenerative land practices, material research, and creative experimentation.

The farm features a vegetable garden, a growing orchard with apples, apricots, cherries, and pawpaw, a flock of chickens, and an on-site composting system which was established in 2024. The vegetable garden is organized into twelve 6’ x 45’ planting beds, which host seasonal native vegetables, herbs, sunflowers, and marigolds - planted in part to help deter pests naturally.

Operated by Future Green’s Farm Committee, the farm brings staff together across the seasons to grow, harvest, and care for the land - deepening our connection to local food systems and the regional landscape. Much of the produce grown on-site is shared between our Brooklyn and Chester office, nourishing employees with fresh, chemical-free food and fostering a culture of care and collective responsibility. We believe that growing food is not only an act of sustainability, but of equity -reasserting the right to healthy, clean produce for all.

Working with land is not just about growing food - it also grows knowledge, creativity, and values that feed into design practice. From planting seeds under fluorescent lights in winter to harvesting vegetables in the summer and fall, each season invites hands-on learning, collaborative building, and deeper reflection on what it means to cultivate both place and purpose.
